Dual city-states
Two cities bound by history: the promise of progress above and its consequences in the depths below.
Inside the story · 2 MIN
Trade · Hextech · Unequal progress
Piltover’s influence rests on commerce, craft and innovation. Its position above Zaun and its great maritime infrastructure connect it to distant markets. Wealth supports workshops, academies and monumental buildings. The city’s image of progress is therefore an economic system as well as an aesthetic: discoveries need patrons, trade needs routes and successful inventions redistribute influence.
Hextech brings magic into devices that can be engineered and used by people without a mage’s traditional training. Jayce’s updated biography credits his work with Viktor in the field’s major discoveries. What begins as a promise to improve life can become a weapon or a source of inequality. The consequences belong to the story just as much as the brilliance of the invention.
Caitlyn’s investigations offer a view of law, privilege and the limits of official authority. Heimerdinger’s long perspective asks what a city overlooks when it celebrates constant advancement. Merchant influence, scientific ambition and public responsibility intersect in these lives. Piltover is not simply the safe half of a divided city: decisions made in its bright halls reach far below them.
The two cities share infrastructure, movement and consequences, even when their opportunities differ radically. Arcane and newer champion biographies reshape parts of their history. This dossier uses the regional atlas for geography and atmosphere while directing readers to updated character sources for individual events. Treating every older description as a simultaneous present would hide that evolving continuity.
