The Void
A wound in the world: traces of the Void reveal the threat to Runeterra’s very reality.
Inside the story · 2 MIN
Unreality · Watchers · The scars of Icathia
Not another country
The Void is an intrusion of unmaking into existence, not a civilisation with borders comparable to Demacia or Noxus. Its appearances on the map mark wounds and incursions. The Watchers seek an end to the disturbance of reality, while creatures shaped by contact with Runeterra pursue different immediate behaviours. A purple landscape alone is not enough to explain what the Void is.
Icathia and the price of desperation
Icathia’s revolt against Shurima unleashed a power its people could not contain. The devastation scarred the land and the warriors who faced it. Elsewhere, the Watchers beneath the Freljord tie the same existential threat to a very different history. These sites are related through the Void, but they should not be flattened into a single invasion occurring at one moment.
Hunger, study and transformation
Vel’Koz studies the physical world to expose its weaknesses. Bel’Veth, born from a devoured city’s experiences, wants to consume and remake reality in her own image. Her ambitions also oppose the Watchers’ intended oblivion. These differences show why “the Void wants” can be an oversimplification: contact with existence changes the entities that emerge from it.
