Wildlife and Fauna

The wildlife of the First Lands reflects the close bonds between nature and magic.

Wildlife at the edge of two realms

The First Lands support creatures whose relationship with magic makes familiar categories unreliable. Riot’s regional presentation stresses both their beauty and their potential danger. The artwork is a view of that environment rather than proof that every creature shown has a published species name or a documented role in the ecosystem.

Why this place matters

Ionians have developed ways of sharing the land with these beings. That relationship helps explain the importance of balance and why damage to a place may have spiritual as well as physical consequences. The Ionia and vastaya dossiers develop these links without treating wildlife as a future mount catalogue.
