The strength of the north
The trolls of the Freljord are among the many creatures that inhabit its frozen expanses.
Inside the story · 2 MIN
Northern clans · Resilience · Trundle’s alliance
Riot’s account of Trundle describes trolls as physically hardy beings able to heal faster than many other mortals. They inhabit some of Runeterra’s harshest environments, with large tribes in the Freljord’s mountains. Resilience is not invulnerability: hunger, exposure and fighting still kill. Their ability to survive where others struggle helps explain their place in the north.
Trundle’s early tribe rewards immediate displays of strength and punishes advice its chief dislikes. His observation that a raided settlement needs time to recover makes him an outsider. The episode is valuable because it challenges a purely physical account of leadership: planning and persuasion can matter even in a society that publicly celebrates brute force.
Trundle’s encounter with Lissandra gives him a weapon of ice and a route back to power. He defeats his former chief and presents an alliance with the Ice Witch as proof of his exceptional destiny. That bargain connects troll ambitions to the Frostguard’s much larger plans. Lissandra is an ally in this story, not a member of the troll people.
Trundle is the fullest individual lens available here, but his tribe should not stand in for every troll community. The sources establish endurance, northern settlement and his political rise; they do not provide a complete account of all troll beliefs or everyday customs. The nearby Freljord dossier supplies the wider geography and competing powers in which his story unfolds.
